A 3D map of how copying things stacked up: matter, then genes, then culture, then code. Every object's shape says what kind of thing it is. Every bar says how it relates to its neighbours. The time ruler on the left is real but not to scale.
Three things make this map different from a tree of life. The lower levels already contain horizontal exchange and fusions, so the network is not new with AI. Most branches are dimmed because they are dead ends: simple life is common, cumulative culture is rare. The top is a double helix, not a new branch: human culture and AI wind around each other, the rungs are mutual dependencies, and the ring marks that the sieve, the choice of which versions get copied, is still in human hands.
The question mark and the three futures above it are the part the author is least sure about. Merge, separation and halt are drawn as possibilities, not predictions.
